We've heard that "two brains are better than one," and while video games heroes are able to handle themselves, it's hard to deny the strength in numbers and the power of teamwork. Sidekicks are a valuable resource to many aspiring heroes, and if you think about it, even some villains need them around. These partners not only watch your back, but they also assist you in finding key items and coming up with strategies to defeat your enemies. Despite minor annoyances, it's safe to admit that having these characters around isn't a bad idea. So here are the top 5 sidekicks you'd want on your side, especially when the hero (player) have to face many daunting challenges ahead.

5. Clank (Ratchet and Clank)

What should have been a large Sentry-bot was the small but highly intelligent Clank. He comes with many abilities and features including the Heli-Pack that helped him to fly, the ability to slow down time (perfect if you need that split second to correct a mistake), and the Geo-Laser; an upgrade that shots a laser which can cut through any form of natural surface. His knowledge of many subjects can be a lifesaver if dire situations where you need a quick thinker.

4. Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Who wouldn't want a sidekick who looks up to you in admiration? Miles "Tails" Prowler, the two-tailed sidekick of Sonic the Hedgehog, not only has a deep admiration for the speedy hedgehog but is a good-natured and brilliant mechanic. His skills rival that of Dr. Robotnik though he hasn't unlocked his full potential. Being able to fly into the sky via using his two tails as a helicopter rotor would prove helpful in getting those hard to reach items. Just remember that Tails can only stay in air for a limited time before he tires.

3. Navi (Legend of Zelda)

Sure, you normally would not want an annoying fairy who only says things like "Hey" and "Listen!" but Navi was good for helping Link in targeting and finding the secrets in Hyrule. She would be very helpful in letting you know if there is someone around you can talk to in order to move the quest to save the world along.

2. Yoshi (Super Mario World)

What's green, lays spotted eggs, and has a long sticky tongue? Yoshi, that's who. The green dinosaur is able to eat small enemies that he grabs with his tongue and turns them into eggs that he can toss at other enemies. And those pesky ones that are too big can be spit up and tossed as well. Yoshi has played an important role in protecting Baby Mario from foes. If all you want is a ride, Yoshi is a good choice.

1. Daxter (Jak and Daxter)

Daxter might not seem like someone you'd want to hang out with all day. This wisecracking troublemaker can be quite the coward but he has been known to be brave when it is needed. Case in point is when he managed to rescue Jak from prison. Yes, he did forget about it at one point and took on the job as an exterminator but he saved Jak. Which counts for something. When he becomes doused by a large amount of Dark Eco, he gains the ability to grow into an eight foot tall Dark creature who can throw Dark Eco bolts, a tornado-like frenzy attack, and smash the ground.
